About Me
I'm an adult amateur working as a data scientist to fund my equine addiction. I live in southern Indiana with my incredibly supportive husband, our pack of dogs, and too many rabbits and chickens to count. I grew up leasing horses and showing them in both western and english disciplines in 4-H, every bit the horse crazy kid. In college, I worked a summer as a wrangler at Philmont Scout Ranch, which lead me to later go to Shur Shod Farrier School in Missouri, earning my journeyman's in the BWFA. I've gotten the opportunity to help start and put miles on horses for friends and family, but horses are very much my hobby, not my livelihood. My horses are currently boarded in a small co-op style stable 15 minutes from home, and we enjoy dabbling in multiple disciplines. Over the years, this has included dressage, eventing, reining, ranch horse shows, cattle sorting, competitive trail, endurance, and train robbery reenactments. As someone dealing with a prior Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and joint hypermobility, building my proprioception and physical ability tie in closely with my pursuit of being a better horsewoman and rider. I am constantly trying to deepen my understanding of biomechanics, and I build functional fitness through CrossFit and lots of mobility work. Every day learning and growing with my horses is a gift, and I hope you enjoy the experiences I share.

The "dragonmare" |
Missy is my heart horse, plain and simple. I bought her as my first horse on my 21st birthday (having only leased horses previously) from my farrier instructor, and we are in it for the long haul together. She is bred to race barrels (heavy TB influence from Top Deck/Three Bars lines), but we've only ever done that for fun shows. When she arrived in my life, she was a green broke 9 year old who was brave, wouldn't buck you off, and had very little in the way of speed control or steering. However, she was whip smart and game, with excellent ground manners. That, I could work with. Missy is a powerhouse of a mare and can be quite hot-blooded. Miscommunications are met with "back talking" for messing up my end of the deal. However, when we're on the same page, she has limitless try. We've learned a lot together, from the sport of eventing (BN level) to how to work a cow. She has dumped me for being an idiot (ask me how I learned about saddle fit the hard way), but I trust my life to this little mare. When you find a horse with the mind, athleticism, and grit that she has, you inevitably wish you could clone them, which leads to...
