Happy Friday all! Here's a bunch of photos so I can catch up from over the holidays when I tried to disconnect from the computer for a bit.

| Nova: HAIIIII |
| Nova got to witness dental day. The vet even checked her incisors as a great intro to having her mouth handled by someone other than me. Nova was a bit of a brat at first, but eventually accepted it. |
| Nova had a "tying" lesson (with blocker tie ring to avoid injury) while Miss slept off the sedation. |
| The Stank Face ™️ |
| Nova's sire (Ffrewyn Iconic) is being developed beautifully as a dressage pony by his new owner and gets to spend the winter in Florida! |
| Meanwhile, Nova's breeder is teaching her dam (Castleberrys Ravyn) to pull a sleigh in snowy Ontario, Canada! |

| A groundwork session (re)introducing Pyro to the flag |

| Letting Sir soak in the exercise. |
| Nova's first ponying lesson! |
Missy: another one to teach? *sigh* (She is the BEST to pony youngsters off of.) |

| The good, |

| the bad, |
| and the fluffy. |
| Disgusting creature |
| A tragedy occurred (lost the smart cart over the edge of the poo pile) |

| The Gelding Gang |
| Yee-haw |

| Did you know Ivan is an arabian? |
| New year, new roach |
| Note the "oh shit handle" was left untouched. |
Malhon, texting me as I'm wrapping up at the stable: Hope Pyro was decent! Me: He lives to see another day! |
| I got new plastic pallets in place to store hay on. |
| Missy, how? Why?! |
| They urethane glue was still secure on her hoof, but the bond between the glue and tab failed. One of the tabs also ripped most of the way off, but I'm not sure which happened first. |
| I was planning on resetting her shoes a few days later when the temps would be in the 60's, but nooooo, she forced my hand and we did an antiseptic soak in 20 degree weather. |
| That's better. I like the superglue application better than messing with the urethane anyway. |
| Worked Pyro in the outdoor and struggled with his jump saddle sliding forward up his shoulders. |
| That's a classic sign for him that the gullet is too wide. Upon checking, he HAD gone back down a gullet plate size, and I need to make some additional adjustments as well. Thank goodness I can tweak my WOW saddles myself. |
| Welshie Walkies |
| Nova went for her first solo walk with me in the hay field. |
| We stopped to inspect several objects, and she was very brave. |
| Pretty filly |
| Missy, however, spent the entire time running her fence line and hollering for Nova until we returned. |
| Since we don't have a round pen,... |
| ...I set up a visual aid for Pyro. |
.jpg) |
| It helped show him what I was looking for as I transitioned from ground driving... |
.jpg) |
| ...to double lunging. |
| It took us both a bit to figure it out, but he was honestly pretty good for it. He listened to my verbal cues and didn't get upset when I fumbled the reins. We spent about half of the time working on the halt though, as he wanted to root at the bit or walk off without me asking. |
.jpg) |
| While double lunging, I can ask him trot while keeping my hands steady. It should be a good exercise for when I'm not feeling 100%, since I don't have to swing a leg over him or try to keep up walking behind him. |
| Mae is earning her keep and brought me TWO voles in one day. |
| Ignore how muddy and scraggly Nova currently is. She got switched to a hanging bucket for her grain because she started dumping the feed pan on the ground. I'm happy with her weight once again, and she's growing well. |
| Boss mare laying down the law on security cam. |
They are all so freaking cute. That are face on Nova is adorable
ReplyDeleteHehehe, it makes me laugh every time.
DeleteThe good, the bad, and the FLUFFY caught me off guard. Thank you. I needed that laugh today.
ReplyDelete:D Glad I could bring some joy to your day!
DeleteSo cool to see what her sire and dam are up to! And OMG her stank face (TM).
ReplyDeleteLololol, the pony-tude is REAL with this filly. And yes! Both parents are still quite young, so I'm excited to see how they develop!
DeleteOmg Nova’s stank face when tied and ponying would be me 100% of the time if I were a pony LOL
ReplyDeleteHahahaha, I could practically hear her saying, "this is STUPID."
DeleteNova's little face in the first ponying photo cracks me up!
ReplyDeleteI was laughing too! Missy, meanwhile was sighing and rolling her eyes.
DeleteYay Pyro!! I'm glad he's coming along with the double lunging. It's been my go to favorite with Dee, mostly because Dee still struggles to stay on a consistent circle size and not fall in, so having an outside rein is a god send. (and no saddle, thank you horse) Nova is coming along so well!!! I love seeing her updates, even the good the bad and the fluffy cameos. And the welsh stank face!! I've gotten that so many times over the years from my favorite welshies, Demon Pony had a seriously epic one.
ReplyDeleteHaha, the stank face is an unexpected bonus with the welsh mare, but it honestly makes me chuckle every time.
DeleteI need to re-watch the double lunging lecture, I think, now that I'm in the thick of it, because I'm struggling to keep the noodle-boi on a consistent circle even WITH an outside rein! Our ground driving is coming along though. Last night we were able to establish consistent contact, and I was able to smoothly transition from side to side without him feeling the need to throw his shoulders one way or the other.
Those ponying photos are hilarious. Brings back memories of naughtiness in my own as they learned to yield and walk along nicely. Tumbleweed was the worst at shenanigans. He even jumped onto the lead horse’s neck. Eventually, he was a pro. Some photos of pyro look identical to my old heart horse, Cowboy. He threw me quite a few curveballs a long the way, but ultimately was the greatest horse of my life.
ReplyDeleteOh Tweed! Pyro had similar shenanigans when he was learning to pony, but thankfully Nova seems a bit more "civilized" about it, lol.
DeleteHere's hoping Pyro can be a good citizen down the road.
Those plastic pallets are sexy.
ReplyDeleteAren't they though?
DeleteYou guys have been up to a lot these few weeks! I love how Nova's face is an open book. No question what she's thinking at a given time! Must be a welsh trait, as Shiny is like that too. So many opinions, and no effort to hide them. Lol!
ReplyDeleteLol, they're so expressive!
